TOOL INFORMATION
USE OF
TRADITIONAL TOOLS SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED. They resign users to
dangerous and horrible positions of use They limit real versatility for
present day options and fire chores. Most fixed tools do not aid in
cross country travel and cost too much to use in terms of high labor
and support costs. They are also very perishable and must constantly be
replaced. In short, they are dangerous, not efficient, do not travel or
store well, and waste human resources.

The Pulaski . . . great turn of
the century fire tool before each crew had a chainsaw. It's life is
about two weeks on a campaign fire. It has a 3" grub-hoe, and a 34"
handle. Vision with head down, hard hat on, is so limited that dangers
are not seen and often shape into accidents. There is no safe way to
carry this tool. It does not aid x-country travel, is not versatile,
and limits chores that a firefighter can respond to.

The shovel - horrible scraping
tool, not stable enough to aid the x-country traveler. It makes only a
fair mop-up device and also limites fire fighters in regard to what
they can respond to on a fire.

The burlap bag - the most
dangerous of all wildfire tools. Extra bags are carried to replace
those that wear out. These hang from pack straps or belts, and they
catch on fire !!!! Note position of use - an all night beat is, at
best, brutal. The face is put right into the flame lengths, and this
contributes to dehydration which inhibits the ability to produce.
Cannot be used in blow down - they need to be wet or they will not work.
 10 fixed
traditional tools. Left to right they are: felling axe, Pulaski, Hazel
Hoe, brush hook, shovel, Rhinehardt, McCleod, Council Tool, barlap bag,
mud flap swatter. Why waste high labor and suport costs by arming a
fire fighter with these?
These old, fixed, traditional tools need to be
retired aned removed from the approved list of wildfire hand tools.
They are too limited in what they offer to the x-country traveler and
fire fighter. The New Dragon Slayer Hand Tool System improves and
consolidates them into a cleaner, better more durable, less perishable
system. This new system is above all SAFER ! They are balanced,
lightweight, and get users in an upright, more comfortable and
productive position of use. These new tools are more versatile and
responsive. These things cost a days' pay, but they deliver
capabilities that pay for themselves in increased efficiency with their
first use on a fire . . . and they lst years and years longer than the
cheaper, more limiting older tools - cut waste.
 Dragon Slayer hand tools are
engineered to last. They offer the options needed for all fire chores
and all wildfire ecosystems/fuel types. They are UNIVERSAL ! They are
kinder to the user, more efficient, and save money !! First use pays
for them !!
